The Puppy Bowl Gets Even Better With Subaru

The cutest sports event on the planet is here!  Live this Sunday, February 3rd is Puppy Bowl IX.  Tune in to Animal Planet at 3 PM, EST.  The Puppy Bowl has a kitten half time for those of you who are feline partial, and for even more fun there will be hedgehog referees!

We here at Casa de Oskar are not big sports fans.  We think the commercials are cooler than the game, so the adorable puppies wrestling and playing on the Puppy Bowl is standard viewing.

Subaru has a really cool new Puppy Bowl Co-Viewing App. The app will have Subaru content available on 2/3/13 during the Puppy Bowl.  In other words, the app will work live with Subaru’s fun engagement during the airing of the Puppy Bowl. It will also work during the re-air (check local listings).  It's available for both tablet and mobile devices.

Subaru of America celebrates the love between our owners and their dogs with the Dog Tested. Dog Approved.™ campaign. Meet Grant Weber, Subaru Canine Sales Associate.  Since Grant sells Subaru's only to dogs, he is the perfect dog do help you find the perfect Subaru vehicle.  No matter size, breed, or temperament, he’ll find the right Subaru for your needs. So if you’re a dog, and you’re looking for a Subaru, bring your peeps down to see Grant Weber. You’ll leave with your tail held high.

Even with distractions, Grant Weber has no problem showing you how easy it is for a dog to buy a Subaru.

What you want to do before Sunday is download the IntoNow app from iTunes by using the following link. http://blogp.ws/Wxa8ia

The fun will also continue on Twitter, so use the hashtags #SubaruBP and #PuppyBowl to interact with other viewers.

Just Another Dog Blog ~ New Blogger Alert

Today we are meeting Winston & Laura from Just Another Dog Blog.

I'm Laura Cunningham, a Media student from Ayrshire Scotland. Winston is a 6 month old French bulldog. I have had dogs in my family before but it wasn't until I got Winston that I found a true pet.

From the moment we walked through the door at the breeders house and saw little Winston's huge eyes we both knew we had to have him. He was this tiny little ball of fun, barking away at his brother and sister and chewing on the bottom of Jacks trousers. We exchanges glances and I knew that, this time, I wouldn't have to talk Jack round. We paid the deposit and picked him up two weeks later. I can officially say that Winston is one of the most magical things in my life. I love him a tad too much and I'm pretty sure he just puts up with me because I feed him! He is such a little grump, he gets so huffy if I do something he doesn't approve of and by god should you take too long putting his food down he will groan the face off you. But lets be honest, every dog has their weird little characteristics. It's what makes them, well, them.

I decided to start up the Winston blog because I have always fancied trying my hand at it. However, in the past I've always forgotten about it because I wasn't truly passionate about what I was writing. However, with the Winston blog I am so into what I'm writing and I hope that comes across. I love Winston and all dogs to be honest. I like to write about things you find yourself talking about with dog people you meet on walks, at the vet, in the pet shop anywhere really.

I post every Saturday and Wednesday and every second Wednesday I have my dog walker write something for Winston about his day out on his walk with her. I will also be writing product reviews and location reviews for anyone who live around about and is stuck for places to take their puppies. The Winston Blog is something that I do take very seriously and would live for people to read and enjoy as much as I enjoy writing it. And if anyone has anything they would like to see written about of reviewed then feel free to leave a comment and let me know.

Drop by Winston's Just Another Dog Blog and say hello today!

Cotton's Cottage ~ Featured Blogger

Today we are proud to feature the adorable Cotton from Cotton's Cottage.

My name is Cotton and I live in Singapore. I was adopted by five humans on December 27, 2011 at one of those shelters after being lost for a few days. I am so glad I have a furever home! Because I was lost, nobody knows when my real birthday is so my family made my birthday the same as my Gotcha day. This year, I will be turning 5.

My bloggy is where I write about my adventures and the insane things that I do, I love hearing what others think about them! I started writing in June this year and since joining, I've met so many new friends!
I am a Poostie, which is mommy's creation of a Poodle and Westie mix. Some people say I'm probably part Bichon too, but never mind, I like being a Poostie.
I, like many others, support "Adopt Not Shop". Adopted dogs are just as friendly, loyal and beautiful as the store bought ones.

I hope that after reading about me, you might be interested to take a look at my favorite posts:

Also, if you want to see more of me, I have a Facebook and a Twitter too.
Thanks for reading!

Flu, Eww

Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been around too much.  As you may know I struggle with some long-term health problems and a virus has kept me sick since the beginning of the year.  I've been hospitalized a couple of times for dehydration, but I'm doing somewhat better.  My Dr. took lots of blood yesterday to see if we can come up with a solution.

The good news is that since being sick I've lost 20 lbs. ;)

Hopefully I'll be back in the blogging saddle more regularly sooner than later.  I miss hearing what's going on with all of the bloggy world.

I’ve also published three dog books, the best-selling of which is Bedtime Stories for Dogs. I always love reading other dog and pet-related blogs, so I thought 2013 was time for me to become a pet blogger myself.

Speedy The Cheeky House Rabbit ~ Featured Blogger

Speedy the Cheeky House Rabbit is a blog about a Himalayan Rex Rabbit Called Speedy and his adventures through out his life.

Some of it is written by Speedy some by his Mum with some helpful facts and tips about bunnies thrown in too. Speedy loves having adventures and exploring his gardens and his Grandma's garden which he thinks of as his Kingdom, The Kingdom of Speedom.

He loves to do his disappear, and escape, his Houdini act to go on new adventures like rescuing his bunny friends all over the world and having fun on the pirate bunny ship the Lagomorph with the aid of a magic closet that all bunnies travel by.

He thinks Humans make great trampolines and mountains to climb on, to survey his Kingdom.  And when he's running around at full speed you can see how he got his name.

He loves play games like hide and see and you can't catch me and like the be naughty just to see what will happen and sticking his nose into all sorts of places like a detective sniffing out clues to some mystery case.

Life is never boring with Speedy around,it just one big game full of laughter and fun!

Theo's Dog Blog ~ New Blogger Alert

We haven't been around much lately, me, Pam, has had the flu for over a week.  But that won't stop me from introducing you to Theo.

My name is Theo and I am a big, bouncy ginger lab-husky cross. I live with my human Mum and Dad in a leafy little town called Westerham, just South of London by about 15 miles. My first family left me in a rescue centre and back then, I was skinny, nervous and tended to nip people when I wanted to play (Dad tastes like chicken). After a lot of walks, obedience classes and plenty of biscuits I finally knew that the new humans were well trained. I'd found my home, and we were a family. I calmed down a lot, although I still like to cause mischief if we don't have plenty of exercise and games that make me think! Here I am!

Yes, that's me, and that's my tongue! If you're not careful, I'll give you a big kiss! (Mum says it's like being slimed by the ghost from "Ghostbusters"). Here's me at the beach, I like to hunt and pounce on my tennis ball!

We have a great time, exploring the woods and trails of South East England and enjoy our share of adventures. Dad thought it was high time to write a blog just after the time we got chased by a herd of cows (can't catch me!), and then the week after Mum's finger was broken when my leash was tangled. That's where it all started, and why we started writing. My website is the aptly titled, "Theo's Dog Blog - the misadventures of a big ginger dog"

I love my training, and have gone through most of the stages with the UK's Kennel Club (puppy, bronze and silver), and working on my gold. I have tried agility but preferred to watch Dad run up and down like a lunatic (I'll do a trick once, maybe twice - but never more than three times). Just before Christmas I was awarded a very special certificate by my class. I'm the only dog ever to have escaped by jumping the fence. In my defence, there were some really tasty pine cones on the other side, and then I noticed the herd of sheep far in the distance, just one field over... honestly! I ask you, who wouldn't have jumped?

Well, that's a little about me and my family. We've made lots of friends along the way - and maybe we can be friends too! Check out Theo's dog blog, we really hope you like it! We'd love you to drop by the blog and say hi in the comments.

Best wishes,
Mike (Dad), Kim (Mum) & Theo Dog (the one with the fluffy tail)

All Things Collie ~ Featured Blogger

Today we'd like to introduce you to All Things Collie.
Abby, Lady, Holly
I have always been a dog lover. But during my childhood we lived in apartment buildings and could not have dogs. One day, while visiting my grandparents I discovered some very old books. They were stories written about courageous collies, and were written by Albert Payson Terhune. The books were about Terhune’s famous Sunnybank collies. I fell in love with the collie breed because of those stories. But I’m also a huge fan of the old Lassie movies, and I never missed a chance to watch those old movies. So it’s not really a surprise that I began dreaming about having my own collie one day.
It took 23 years before I finally had my own collie. But once a collie entered my life, and family, more soon followed. I began researching the history of my collies, and the collie breed. My research led me to some fascinating discoveries about the history of the collie breed. Before long I was learning about my own dogs’ relationship to some of the most famous collies in the breed’s history. I was able to trace my collies’ pedigree all the way back to the beginning of the breed, to the first collies. I began my blog to share the information I was gathering and to share stories and pictures of my own beloved collies.

American Collie ~ You've Come A Long Way Baby

Recently, I began including dog cookie recipes that I have made for my own dogs. My collies love when I try out a new cookie recipe, as they are my official taste-testers! On Fridays I choose a different collie rescue group, and share information about collies who are searching for their forever-homes. These beautiful dogs are all waiting for their new best friends to come find them! I also try to include funny stories, as well as health issues concerning the collie breed.
Tasty Tuesday Treats

We currently have five beautiful collies, Abby, Holly, Ryder, Kori and Scarlett. Four of our collies are smooth collies, and Ryder is our only rough collie. So please stop by our blog, we love making new friends!

Dolly TheDoxie ~ New Blogger Alert

Today we're pleased to introduce you to Dolly the Doxie!

I adopted my Doxie mix Dolly a little over two years ago. I had been out of work for some time, was getting very lonely with just my old cat for company, when my husband and I found her picture on Petfinder. It was the day after our last cat passed away. She was at a local shelter called Wright-Way Rescue. We had to wait seven weeks before she was healthy enough to come home at three months old. I had been wanting a dog for years to go on walks with me to the park because every time I came home from a walk the first thing I would say was "I want a dog to keep me company on my walks." Well that is what "The Adventures of Dolly the Doxie" are about. Our adventures together and how she has changed my life since I adopted her.

I came to the realization about how much my life was changing one day after spending the morning at the park with other dogs and their owners that she had started playing with. I realized that I was making friends, meeting neighbors in my community, even making connections for finding work, in a neighborhood I had lived in for 19 years where I had never known a neighbor. Fast forward a year or so to a social media internship I was doing at Bobbi Panter Pet Products where I first started writing blogs. After that ended I was ready to start my own about Dolly and me. Our blog is story based, I try to keep the posts short but its hard for me to do. I've always loved to write and it has been very rewarding hearing from people who have read them and enjoy what I have written.

I am still pretty new to blogging and look at other blogs a lot to get ideas on what to incorporate on mine. I have so many ideas on what to write about in addition to Dolly's and mine regular adventures. I have begun writing a series on the Dogs of Portage Park about all of her friends she has met, their owners and their own heartwarming stories and antics together. I intend for my blog to be humorous because it is written in her voice but I also want to cover products and issues that I have come across. Dolly is a very sweet, loving dog but has a stubborn streak longer then her so she is always a challenge for me. I hope everyone will give us a chance and follow "The Adventures of Dolly the Doxie."

Pregnancy, Babie and Cats

By Dr. Jessica Vogelsang for The Daily Cat

Pregnancy, Babies and Cats
Pregnancy is a time of joy, but for many women, a time of unprecedented worry. Along with the admonitions about caffeine, lunchmeat and wine, many pregnant women are told they should get rid of their cats because of health risks. With a few basic safety precautions, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that pregnant women do not need to give up their cats.

Most concerns about cats have to do with an organism called Toxoplasma gondii, a microscopic parasite carried by cats. If a woman is exposed to the organism for the first time during pregnancy, the organism can pass to her unborn baby and cause severe medical problems.

When a cat is first exposed to the Toxoplasma organism, it sheds the organism in its feces for approximately two weeks. Once shed in the feces, it takes one to five days before the organism develops into the infectious state. After that single period, they are no longer infectious.

Women who have been exposed to Toxoplasma before becoming pregnant are not at risk of infecting the baby. A blood test exists to determine if you have been previously exposed. In order for a woman to pass on Toxoplasma to her baby from her cat, both the cat and the woman must be exposed for the first time during the woman’s pregnancy.

Common sources of infection include undercooked meat, unwashed produce and ingestion of oocytes (the infectious agent) while gardening -- usually not from the family cat.

If you are pregnant, here are some of the basic steps recommended by the CDC to minimize exposure to Toxoplasma:
  • Change the cat litter daily. Better yet, have a housemate take over litter duties for the duration of the pregnancy.
  • Cook meat thoroughly.
  • Wash hands frequently, especially after gardening.
  • Avoid feeding your pet raw meat.

She loves pugs!!

Moms hobby is obedience and rally training. Bailey has his Rally Novice title and Beginner Novice Obedience Title. Hazel has her Rally Novice Title and her Companion Dog Obedience Title. Now it is my turn!! I passed the AKC S.T.A.R. puppy test and recently passed the Canine Good Citizen test. I love to run and jump and learn new things. Mom hopes I will be her first agility pug.
