Help Iams & Eukanuba Name Their New VP of Canine Communications

As you may know I was lucky enough to go to the Iams & Eukanuba Behind the Paw Influencer summit a month ago.

Their Vice President of Canine Communications, Euka, is retiring and is currently training her replacement this adorable Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen pup.

Guess what he needs besides training?  A name!

Starting today and running until July 7the you can visit either the Iams or Eukanuba Facebook page to suggest a name.

The top 5 names will be picked and a voting poll will be open from July 11-18.  The name with the most votes wins.

The really cool part about this is that for every name suggestion or "like" on the Facebook pages June 29-July 18 Proctor & Gamble Pet Care will donate $1 to America's VetDogs, up to $10,000!

It's a win-win for everyone so click on the links above to help name this adorable new P&G pup!

The Daily Oskar - Weekly Featured Blogger

This week we are proud to help you get to know Oskar a little better.  Since his birthday is Tuesday, I thought I'd let him have the spotlight.

Oskar is a almost 6 year old, all black, miniature schnauzer, who is sassy, considers himself to be excessively handsome and in charge around here.  We live in Michigan with Oskar's dad person & I and Oskar's two teenage boys, John & Jack.

He started The Daily Oskar in 2009 after seeing the success of my personal blog and demanding one of his own.

Oskar loves supervising, landscaping & playing with his favorite toys.  On a nice day he can be found sitting in his back yard on patrol for intruders, such as toads, fat squirrels and Stew Stu the rabbit.

Chloe & Moe the cats the live here with him tolerate him, but regularly slap him in the woozle for no apparent reason.

After the success of The Daily Oskar, he suggested launching Pet Blog United in 2010 to bring the amazing pet blogging community together.  Needless to say we have been bowled over by PBU's success.

Here are 3 of Oskar's favorite posts.

Vultures

The Search For JD & Max

Me & My Octopus

Camping Adventure

We hope you'll stop by The Daily Oskar this week and tell Oskar happy 6th birthday!

The Doxiteers - New Blogger Alert!

Today we are happy to introduce yourselves to the Doxiteers!

Charlie Brown, "he's a clown" - adopted 11/2009; wants to be hugged and loved so was deemed too needy and discarded; Charlie is very comical, the only male who may actually come when called ; He is the Alpha male but he & Rudy take turns every evening on my husband's lap, being petted and rubbed and each will howl if the other's time-limit has been exceeded; he's a clever, happy, chuckle-fest with feet; Charlie is 7+ years old;
Charlie
Rudy Toots - adopted 11/2009; was described to me as "snarky" because he has little growling temper tantrums and needs time-outs; Rudy can also be loving, gentle and very tolerant of any other doxies brought into his home; Rudy believes breathing = barking and enjoys banshee howling in a trance-like state, his nose angled to the sky; he adores squeaky tennis balls & will chase them all over the yard if thrown - however, returning the balls is not in his repertoire as he fails to understand the point; Rudy is 6+ years old;

Rudy
Solly, aka Solly No Teeth - adopted 11/2009, is a black & white longhair mini piebald approx. 10-11 yrs old; he developed colitis from abandonment & had his few teeth extracted; new meds revived him and he has become quite the character; though he's still skittish, he fears no other dog (the defiant doxie attitude); Solly LOVES "his" sofa and protects his area like a commando trying to average 20-22 hours of safety-zone snoozes per day, in/outside, weather permitting [this also determines if he dines al fresco or on his sofa]; he is puppy and sofa-potato in one fuzzy bundle.

Solly
Dora Lee Scarlett, adopted 7/2010 from a puppy mill in MO after 4+ years in a horrible cage! Now she spends her days desperately trying to make up for never having grass to roll in, or dirt to dig huge holes in, or space to explore, and by chasing every bird, squirrel, chipmunk, wild turkey and deer; Dora Lee awakens each morning smiling and wagging her tail; Dora Lee is a sweetheart yet a cunning huntress; she loves to dig and catch mice and will tote them into the house for a tasty snack if not discovered! Dora is 6+ yrs old;
Dora Lee Scarlett
Henry the Humble, our most recent adoption 4/2011, is a dachshund/spaniel mix who has visual and auditory problems and is approx. 10 yrs old; Henry was 1/2 hour from being murdered when rescued in SC ; Henry now quietly lives just to rest his head by your feet and/or to eat! He follows his little cousin doxies outside and up/down his ramp to the yard, happy just to still be loved. Henry has Senior status and leaves the barking and chasing and howling to the younger generation - Henry is a sweet, gentle soul....
Henry

Our other furry angel dachshunds have crossed the Rainbow Bridge but we'll include their stories and wienerful lives in future blogs - they were all AMAZING and are terribly missed.....

Please take a moment to stop by the Doxiteers to welcome them to the world of blogging.  If you are interested in being featured in a New blogger Alert, e-mail us at PBU at comcast dot net.

Foster Friday - The Kitten Diaries

This week week have a Foster Friday guest post by Aggie of The Kitten Diaries

Every year, as temperatures climb and people spend more time outside, kitten season arrives. Shelter workers and volunteers both anticipate and dread this time of year. It means the arrival of an abundance of cuteness in the form of tiny kittens, but it also means heartbreak as sometimes there is not enough shelter space or foster homes for them.

I really encourage those who have been thinking of fostering to do it now. It's true that kittens are high maintenance and require more time and attention, but if you can foster adult cats that will free up other homes to raise these kittens until they're ready to be adopted. And if you've been thinking of adopting a kitten or cat, this is the best time to do so!

The quicker kittens are adopted the more space there is for new ones that come daily, and also the more chance an adult cat has to find their forever home, as adopters who come in wanting a senior cat get distracted and end up going home with kittens. And how can anyone resist these faces?

For more photos and to hear about adventures in fostering kittens, please visit The Kitten Diaries. Thanks for reading!
-Aggie

We would like to thank Aggie & all of you out there who foster.  You all rock!  So are ya up for the challenge?  Can you foster a kitten this spring?

Maisie and Me - Featured Blogger

This week we are proud to feature Maisie and her person Francie from Maisie & Me.

In January of 2009, I lost my beloved dog Kaya after over 16 years together. I lasted less than two weeks before the quiet and stillness of an empty apartment got to me and I decided to take in a foster dog.

Maisie had originally been found living in an abandoned house in a very bad neighborhood. She was about a year old. After being rescued by a good samaritan, she was adopted by a family but unfortunately, whatever Maisie experienced in her first year of life made her fearful of men.

The husband was looking for a dog to be a running partner, but Maisie wouldn't run with him. So the family relinquished her to a doggie daycare facility that sometimes houses dogs waiting for foster homes through a local rescue. At the time, I was on the Board of Directors of that organization and when I decided to foster, Maisie had been living at the daycare facility for a month with no foster or adoption applications (she was black and a pit mix, both big strikes against her as far as potential adopters). I took her home and she slept for nearly two days straight.

Maisie still has issues but thankfully she is about the cutest and snuggliest dog I've ever met. I started this blog because I was afraid all my friends on Facebook were getting sick of so many posts about her and figured this way, at least reading all my dog stories could be optional!

Here are 3 of their favorite posts:

Antlers

Treat Dance

Nobody's Perfect

Take some time this week to visit Maisie and Me and leave them some PBU comment love.

Maisie also wanted me to let you all know that she's running a contest this week to win a pawsome deer antler!

All Creatures Great & Furry - New Blogger Alert

Today we would like to intoduce you to All Creatures Great & Furry!

Lily, foreground, Lucy, background
We are a mother and daughter team who are truly in love with our beautiful 3 doggies! Our 3 dogs are named Lily, Lucy, and Gracie! (all of them are under 10 lbs) Gracie has been a new addition to the family this year! We were selling a doghouse to a lady that was fostering her for the SPCA. We couldn't stand seeing her face in that car and had to hold her! From that moment on, we knew she was meant to be part of our family! We adopted her and changed her name to Grace or Gracie as we affectionately call her. We picked the name Grace because it was by God's grace that she became part of our family We decided to start blogging about our adventures with our cutie-patooties because as soon as Gracie came along, the house kind of got crazy! All of our dog's antics became even funnier when 3 were involved!

Gracie
We decided to start blogging because our dogs are just so funny and there personalities are so unique. We love that our dogs love to eat Goldfish crackers or go down the slide at the park, Gracie even goes up the steps & slides down by herself! One of our other "babies", Lucy, is the middle child & our little Drama Queen, she even knows how to smile! Lily is the oldest & mothers the other two. We can go on and on about our dogs because we love them so much! They are just truly little blessings in our lives!
We really hope that our little dogs will make people laugh as much as we do!

Lucy

Premier Pet Products Review & Prize Pack Giveaway!

Oskar & I recently had the opportunity to work with Premier Pet Products and we got to try out some fantastic toys and treats for Oskar.  They even want to give one of our readers the chance to get in on the fun!  Someone gets a super-duper prize pack of the Tug-a-Jug, Squirrel Dude & the Buddy Berries!  How's that to get your attention!

They sent one of each of these cool things!

Tug-A-Jug

Treat dispensing Squirrel Dude

Buddy Berries to go in the toys

Beef Liver Biscotti that also fits in the toys
Let me tell you as a pet parent that these are very well constructed and manufactured toys.  Exactly the kind of high quality stuff you want your pet to be playing with!

First we tried the Squirrel Dude and Oskar got that right away.  Roll it around and delicious Beef Liver Biscotti treats fall out.  The opening is adjustable to you can make it easier or harder for the treats to come out.

This is one squirrel Oskar loves!
Now I have to tell you that with the Tug-a-Jug, Oskar failed.  He's just not food motivated enough to work to get the treats to tumble out.
Just because Oskar failed with the Tug-a-Jug, doesn't mean your dog will too, it's a great toy to keep dogs occupied and an awesome solution for dogs who wolf down their kibble too fast!

Premier Pet Products is offering one lucky pup a prize pack with a Tug-a-Jug, Squirrel Dude & the Buddy Berries!  I mean how pawsome is that!

There are 6 ways to enter!  You must do at least one & leave the appropriate comment below, but your welcome to do all 6 and leave a seperate comment for each.  Please don't forget to leave us your e-mail address in your comments so we can contact you if you win.  This contest is open to the Continental US only.  Here's how to enter:

Open Hearts: Adventures in Dog Fostering - Featured Blogger

This week we're talking to Kim from Open Hearts for an inside look at fostering!
.
Kim with her family's dog, Shelby

Hello, everyone! My name is Kim, and I started my blog Open Hearts: Adventures in Dog Fostering at the end of last year. I began it as a way to document my adventures fostering dogs with a local all-breed rescue. I also hoped that the blog would create awareness about fostering/rescue and convince others to give it a try. My blog has evolved into a supportive community where other fosters and dog owners share their experiences and expertise. Please, come join us!

Our current foster, Karina, who has been featured on Foster Friday!
As for my favorite posts...
Early on, I started to grapple with the sheer number of homeless animals in U.S. shelters. I wrote about this in one of my favorite posts, The Underworld.

Every once in awhile, I'll post a dog-related book review. Jim Gorant's The Lost Dogs was what convinced me to foster, so it's only appropriate that it's my favorite book review.

Our first foster, Wookiee. (His adopters appropriately re-named him Chewy.)
In addition to fostering, my fiancé and I take in overnight canine guests from time to time. These dogs are on a transport from shelters in the South to rescues in the Northeast. They just need a place to crash along the way. I really enjoyed this post about how an 85-pound lab-horse mix ended up in my living room one night.

Oskar & I hope each of you will take some time out of your week, to stop by Open Hearts and leave them some comment love!
